Prompt:
Many people feel that history, literature and other liberal arts are the most important topics to study in school. Others think that technical subjects like math, engineering or physics are more useful. In your view, which of these viewpoints is stronger? Use specific examples and reasons in your answer.
As I highly value practicality of life, technical subjects are essentially more useful in life, compared to liberal arts studies.
Technical subjects cultivate a pragmatic view towards the problems in life. As one is aware of, science is the fundamental basics of the world. Its existence explicates the natural phenomena occurred around us and makes us savvier about the ways the world is functioning. For instance, the Inertia topics taught in a physics class enlightens one on his reaction i.e. thrust forward when the car suddenly halts. The grasp of science knowledge allows one to understand his certain responses in life, and therefore saves a lot of time in questioning the reason behind. Furthermore, this knowledge eases our lives. Armed with the fundamental basics on forces and distances, one is more likely to lift a weight up easier, which is by holding your hand closer to the center point of the object.
Besides that, these technical subjects improve the lives of human being. Based on the knowledge accumulated from mathematics and science, pundits are able to create technology that improves our lives. It is the useful application of these technical subjects that drives the invention of light by Thomas Edison. It is the exploration of these technical subjects that allow you to take flights and travel all over the world nowadays. The gain of this knowledge is so epochal that it constantly upgrades our living standards. It is the power of these subjects that allow us to possess more comforts in life.
Based on my perspectives, technical subjects are indeed more useful in life. Nonetheless, my standpoint does not exclude the importance of liberal arts studies. These abstract forms of life knowledge are definitely other critical sources of wisdom that we should pursue throughout the life. Only with the complementation of this knowledge with the technical intelligence, the wisdom of one is consummated. The fusion of two will empower one into a greater person, in terms of both logical and thoughts. However, the significance of the technical issues would always outweigh the importance of liberal arts studies, as these subjects drive us thinking in a more pragmatic view, which fits the society better.
