Prompts:
When some people win, must others lose, or are there situations in which everyone wins?
For almost all the games we played in life such as chess, monopoly and sports, there is always only one winner emerged in the end. There is hardly any situation that every player can share the triumph together. Paradoxically, this “sole winner and sole loser” theory is not fully applicable in our real life scenarios. There are way too many circumstances in life which win-win situation is the ultimate dictate in creating a situation that is conducive for everyone.
Driven by personal desires and benefits, it is common for people in the workplace to contend with each other in securing their jobs. During the recession, this situation is even more notable. Due to the fear of being retrenched, the employees try to surpass each other in order to continue surviving. However, this basic human survival rule does not really help people to pull through the economy downturn. It is verified by the fact that the company which has high employment cut down rate normally is not the company with the highest performance. Instead, the top company in surviving the meltdown is the company which keeps their members in position. The employer and employees are willing to fight against the crisis together, which eventually leads to a win-win situation ---- the employees retain their jobs and the company managed to survive, as a result of the assiduous efforts of both parties. Such scenario is definitely not a miracle, but rather a proper application of “win-win situation” principles.
At a microscopic level, this win-win situation is witnessed through the sharing of knowledge between the students. Some smart student refuses to share their cognizance with others, as they are afraid of being overtaken by others, in terms of class ranking. It is relatively apparent that these students aim to become sole winners of the field. However, this hypothesis is fallacious, as the austerity in learning would not make the students to understand the topic fully. Which is why, the top scholars are always those students that vigorously discuss their knowledge with others. Through the open discussion, they are being challenged by new ideas and insights, which provoke them to think in a more critical manner and hence improve the intellect of the students. This instance is a significant evidence in validating that win-win situation is the key in leading one to success, instead of the ambition of crowning a sole-winner.
Unassailably, there are scenarios where victory is only belonged to single person. However, in our real life situation, the victory is always fruition of everyone’s effort; in return, this victory will serve as a benediction for everyone. Such win-win situation is desired in most of the cases, as it brings happiness not only to a particular person, but to a company, a society or even to a nation. Nonetheless, this win-win situation can only come true when everyone works hand in hand and strive towards the same dream.
