Prompt:
Should people let their feelings guide them when they make important decisions?

Indeed, feeling, as an instinct gifted in us is critical as it differentiates us from the emotionless robots that are inanimate. It is essential in our daily life as it allows us to have emotions, to have the ability to feel what others feel, for instance being empathetic towards disable’s predicament in life. However, at the pivotal moment in life, we should not fully depend on our feeling in making up decisions. Instead, practical analysis and judgment should be upheld in making such essential decisions.

Feeling should not be prioritized in guiding us as it lacks of the basic fundamentals in judging a situation from a pragmatic point of view.  It will put one into disadvantages as one likely to live in a self-created illusion and neglect the factual consequences that the decision might lead to. For instance, in choosing a lifelong career path, it will make no sense if one opts to become a mathematician in the circumstances whereby he cannot even do the simple mathematics. This aspiration is definitely fallacious as it is totally ruled by one’s feeling or interest, but the practicality in realizing it is totally neglected.

In a bigger picture, if the leaders make decisions out of instinct instead of analyzed judgment, this pure guidance by feeling might even affect a nation’s stability and progress. Imagine the scenario of America if President Barack Obama is to choose the ministers to become part of his incumbent cabinet just because he “feels” like doing so, instead of considering the abilities of the governors. As an aftermath, disputes or even protests might occur as the fundamental rules in maintaining a capable governing system is violated. The specific criteria and requirements for certain position become groundless, and this allows the breeding of nepotism or favorism which might greatly retards the nation’s development.

In a nutshell, it is incontrovertibly that one should depend on his judgment instead of feeling in forming essential decision. Nonetheless, one should not be excessively practical as it perishes our innate emotions and transforms us into another duplicate of a merciless machine. Thus, the linchpin in making an important yet the most appropriate decision is to create a fusion, in which pragmatic aspect of certain scenario is analyzed and innermost instinct is considered. “Observe the surrounding and follow your hear, as they will bring you to the right direction.”

Time spent: 40 minutes.

Feel free to let me know if you have better input! Thanks!
I just thought of the "moral values" point too! :)
